5 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Real Estate Lawyer

June 6, 2022 by Mark Mellor

Are you in the process of buying or selling a home? If so, then you may need to hire a real estate lawyer. While there are many lawyers who practice real estate law, not all of them are created equal. You need to find one that has the experience and qualifications that you need. In this blog post, we will discuss 5 questions that you should ask before hiring a real estate lawyer.

How Long Have You Been Practicing Real Estate Law?

This is an important question to ask and it should be one of the first. You want to make sure that the lawyer you hire has plenty of experience. The last thing you want is to hire someone who doesn’t have the experience necessary to help you. Real estate law can be tricky. You need someone who knows their stuff!

What Cases Have You Handled That Are Similar To Mine?

Make sure to ask about what types of cases the lawyer has handled in the past. This will give you a good idea of their experience level. Look for a lawyer who has handled cases similar to yours. This way, you can be sure that they will know how to handle your case and get the best results for you. While it isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker, if they haven’t handled cases like yours, it may be a good idea to move on to someone who has.

Will You Provide References?

A good lawyer should be able to provide you with references from past clients. These references can be a great way to get an idea of what it is like to work with a lawyer. You can also use these references to see if the lawyer was able to get results for their clients. If a lawyer is unwilling or unable to provide you with references, then that is a red flag. You may want to consider looking elsewhere for someone who can help you with your case.

How Much Should I Expect To Pay For The Whole Process?

You should ask this question before hiring any lawyer. Real estate lawyers typically charge by the hour. However, some may charge a flat fee for their services. Make sure to ask about this upfront so that you know what to expect. You also want to make sure that the lawyer is transparent about their fees. They should be able to give you a breakdown of their fees so that you know exactly what you are paying for.

What Are Your Qualifications?

Finally, you want to make sure that the lawyer you hire is qualified to help you with your case. This means that they should have experience in real estate law and should be licensed to practice in your state. They should also be a member of the American Bar Association’s Real Estate Section. This shows that they are up-to-date on the latest changes in real estate law.

The Bottom Line

If you keep these things in mind, then you should be able to find a qualified real estate lawyer who can help you with your case. Just make sure to ask plenty of questions and do your research before hiring anyone. With the right lawyer, you should be able to get the results you need.
